Introducing Jaycee Jane Adam
Born June 9, 2012 at 11:56 am
8 lb 9 oz, 20 1/2 inches long
Oh boy are we excited to have this little goose finally here! She has seriously been THEE best baby in every way. Here is the story on how she came into the world....Let's just say it was a little bit dramatic...Okay, ALOT a bit dramatic. Not quite the same blissful labor and delivery as it was with Paislee :) If you are not interested in reading the story, scroll down and look at the pictures of the cutest baby you've ever seen... haha no seriously....
I was scheduled to go in on the night of June 8th to be admitted to the hospital. As alot of you know, June 8th is my birthday! Hence the reason we went in at night instead of earlier in the day. I didn't want Jaycee to have to share birthdays with her mom! So, Jayson and I dropped Paislee off at my mom's at around 4:00 and we headed to the temple. I think the poor elderly temple workers about had a heart attack when they found out I was as far along as I was because when you are that big EVERYONE asks "how much longer till your due?" and I'd say, I'm going in to be induced in 2 hours and they'd look at me like I was crazy! Okay, I guess that wasn't the smartest birthday activity to be doing 39 weeks pregnant, but I couldn't have thought of a better last thing to do with my husband before having our baby. It was perfect!
Following the temple Jayson took me to Tepanyaki to indulge! I literally licked my plate clean. Tepanyaki has never tasted so delicious. I had been having contractions every 6-8 minutes all night which got me nervous because I didn't want to have her that night :) As soon as we were done eating we hurried home to grab our bags, water the garden and do a few last minute things before heading to the hospital.

We got there at 7 and got all comfy cozy. After only being there maybe an hour or so Jayson had planned a great surprise and had my entire family come to the hospital to visit and bring cupcakes and sing happy birthday. It sure was a nice surprise!
Shortly after everyone arrived my nurse (who I absolutely LOVED!) gave me cervadell. This is something they give you to soften your cervix before they induce you. It usually needs to be in 8-10 hours before they can start you. After everyone left Jayson and I watched Man on a Ledge and went to sleep...Well, Jayson went to sleep. I was still having consistent contractions that were 5 minutes apart and getting more painful. I didn't sleep a wink. They even gave me an ambien (which I've taken twice in my life and it COMPLETELY knocks me out) and it didn't even phase me. By that morning I had dilated to a 4 1/2 so they thought they might not need to induce me with pitocin. By 7:00 that morning I hadn't changed so they decided to start me on pitocin. BUT, before that I knew I wanted my epidural because I was in pain and knew the pitocin would only make it worse.
Oh the blessed epidural!! Or so I thought.... (shout out to my friend Ric who came in that morning (his day off) to give me my epidural. What a good man!)
Shortly after my uncle came in and broke my water (this was at around 8:00-8:30) and they started me on pitocin. My entire left side was completely numb. My right side wasn't numb at all and over the next hour I noticed the pain getting super intense on my right side. Ric came in multiple times to adjust my epidural to see if we could get it to go into my right side. Still not working.....I'm starting to get a little nervous at this point. At around 10:45 they check me and I have dilated to a 6. Great! 2 cm in about 2 hrs, looking good! Still in pain though so he decides to pull the epidural out 1 cm to see if that makes a difference.. within minutes I start to notice I can move my left leg... Uh oh, now I'm losing the epidural on my left side too. Panic really sets in as I start to feel the contractions slowly get more painful on my left side too. Before I knew it I was feeling everything and in the worst pain of my life. Only 20 min after being dilated to a 6 I start feeling like I need to push so they check me and I'm at an 8. Crap, we should probably tell our mom's to hurry cause those 2 cm were fast. The best way to describe the next half hour was an out of body experience. They completely removed the epidural at this point because it wasn't working one lick. They had planned to place another epidural, but 5 minutes later I was dilated to a 9 (I swear I was a 10 because I was DYING to push which was honestly the worst part and pain of the whole experience, if you've gone natural you know EXACTLY what I am talking about) BUT both our mom's weren't there yet and my uncle hadn't gotten there yet either. I feel like my nurse was telling me I was at a 9 and not ready to push to keep me somewhat calm and from pushing even though I feel like I was totally a 10. It didn't help. I honestly thought I was going to deliver this baby with no Doctor or Mom's present. All I could really do with each contraction was squeeze the arm rest on my bed and try to breath through it, oh yeah, and cry. I reframed from screaming like you see in the movies or on tv, but now I totally know why some women do!
It would have been really nice to have taken a birthing class or something so I knew how to breathe and relax through contractions. I always thought, "why would I pay for a class when I'm going to be getting an epidural and won't feel a thing?" Eating my words on that one at this point. Luckily, within only a few minutes (felt like eternity) Jayson's mom got there who had all of her children naturally. She was able to show me how to breath to help keep me from pushing. Uncle J where in the heck are you!? Please hurry! I think everyone was surprised at how quickly everything went and my uncle was at a funeral and had to rush. My mom and sister got there shortly after my mother in law and they had no idea what had been going on. Jayson had to call them and say "HURRY! As fast as you can!" and then they walked in to me in excrutiating pain and breathing like you see in the movies...They quickly realized the epidural wasn't working. Seconds after my uncle arrived and the nurse checked me and said, "your a 10!" Oh how convenient, the second they get here I'm a 10...you sneaky nurse, I've been a 10 this whole time I'm sure of it! I'm finally able to relax a little bit knowing I can push. Steve (my uncle) continues to show me how I should breathe and how to relax through the contractions which really helped.
Because I dilated so quickly they didn't have time to place a new epidural. Ric said he could give me a "block" which is just a quick way to completely numb you for a fast delivery or c-section I believe. My uncle quickly said no we don't have time (little did I know at this point Jaycee's heart rate had started to dip, probably because she had been down in the birth canal ready to come out for the last half hour! haha I really don't know if that was the case but I'm assuming it is). So I started to push and 1 minute and 40 seconds later she was born!
The crazy thing was I was able to watch the entire birth because I was bent over so far pushing. It was THEE most painful thing I have ever experienced and therefore I was pushing with every muscle in my body because it hurt so bad I knew I had to get her out quick. She started crying before she was half way out which was crazy but the biggest relief. Everything happened so quickly from the labor to the delivery that I think my body experienced shock or something because minutes after she was born they had to lean me all the way back and put oxygen on me because I thought I was going to pass out. I hardly bled at all and my blood pressure was perfect so that wasn't the reason like some deliveries. They said my heart rate sky rocketed during the pushing and because of everything happening so quickly my body was just in shock. After she was all clean they handed her to me so I could be the first to hold her. I was laying down and still feeling sick so I wasn't able to hold her for long. It took nearly 1 hour to get off of the oxygen and to be able to sit up for a second and 2 hours to feel almost normal again. Sadly I don't remember much from those two hours, but once she was bathed and brought to my recovery room I was feeling like myself again.
It was quite the experience to say the least. Never before have I ever had a desire to give birth naturally. In fact, I am the opposite, I get my epidural the second I can because I don't care to feel any of the pain associated with labor and delivery. I hope I NEVER have to go through that again, but I guess it is kind of cool to be able to say I did it. I just hope I never have to do it again. haha
As traumatic and painful as the labor and delivery was, I wouldn't trade a single second of it for this little angel. We are so in love with her and feel so blessed to have a healthy 8lb 9 oz chubba bubba in our home.
Pais didn't know what to think at first, but quickly fell in love with her little sissy. She honestly has been SO good with her.
First family pic :)
Going home!
First bath at home. Mmmm look at those yummy rolls!
Luckily my recovery has been very smooth. I didn't tear or have to have an episiotomy or anything which really helps! (I didn't with Paislee either so I don't really know anything different) Apart from the fun experience of your "milk coming in" I was up and moving and feeling great. Jayson was able to spend the whole week home with us which made the transition of having two kids at home alot easier. We tried to get out of the house often because when your hormones are going crazy and your milk is coming in and your sleeping less it's easy to go a little bonkers. That is the beauty of a summer baby, you can get out and not be completely nervous about your newborn.
Lots of swim days at Lanny's pool
Snow cone outings weekly
Sissy and Sean got married! Jaycee in her reception dress. That was a little nerve racking taking her to the wedding dinner not even 1 week old yet and then all the wedding stuff the following day on her 1 week birthday. I had been stressing about that day for months, but luckily everything worked out and I was able to make it to the sealing (my sweet mother in law drove all the way to Salt Lake to sit with Jaycee for the 45 minutes we were in the sealing. I love her!) and the reception. I couldn't enjoy the reception fully (I mean what girl who had a baby a week ago really could?) but managed to make it through the night and have a good time.

On our way to her two week appointment. Weighed 8 lb 13 oz (71%) 21 inches (60%) and her head was 15 inches (91%)! It already made me sad that she had grown. I mean I know it's only a few ounces, haha but you just want to freeze them where they are and not let them get any bigger!

Really the best big sister ever. She is my little helper and will go grab things for me when I need them and is always wanting to help. She constantly wants to hold her and kisses on her. She is a mini mommy and will go over to her bed when she wakes up and say, "good morning sweetheart!" Or if she is fussy or hungry say, "Oh honey! It's okay, I'm here!"and give her a binky. She has adjusted so well and loves being a big sister.
Jaycee has been the best baby. She has only gotten up once in the night since the day she was born and has already slept through the night once! She is always happy and hardly ever fussy (unless she's hungry or has a poopy bum of course) She is content as can be and reminds me ALOT of how Paislee was as a baby.
Can you tell who is who? Pais is on the left and Jaycee is on the right. They look VERY similar as newborns. I have already started to notice Jaycee is starting to have her own look now, but you can definietly tell they are sisters!
We are all pretty smitten by this little goose and having so much fun with her being around. I feel so blessed to have two healthy, happy daughters! Jayson and I couldn't be happier!
